* Pivot Points
The pivot point is the weight at which it becomes more economical for the customer to pay the tariff of a greater weight due to a steeper discounted rate offered by Air North Cargo on a slightly greater weight.
Pivot Points - On the 100 lb rate, the weight break is 81lbs therefore it becomes cheaper for the customer to pay $0.80/lb on 100lbs than $1.00/lb on 81 lbs. On the 500lb rate, the weight break is 375lbs, therefore it becomes cheaper to pay $0.60/lb on 500lbs saving the customer money.
Air North Cargo rates are calculated on the greater of dimensional or standard measure of weight.

Measuring Your Cargo Items
We understand that not all cargo items are a perfect box shape. To assist you in your cargo calculation please take note of the following hints on how to measure different shaped items.
Measuring Overlapping Edges
When measuring items with overlapping edges you should use the greatest measurement in each direction rounded up to the nearest inch.
In the illustrated example, therefore, you would measure A x B x H, not C x D x H. |
 |
Measuring Cylinders
When measuring items that are cylindrical in shape, the diameter measurement is used to represent both the length and width.
In the illustrated example, therefore, you would measure D x D x H to obtain the correct dimensional weight. |
 |
Measuring Irregular Shapes
The best way to determine the measurements of an irregular shaped item is by placing it in the corner of a room in the position that it will be loaded on the aircraft. Use a ruler or straight edge to create right angles to the walls, and record the dimensions accordingly.
In the illustrated example you would measure L x W x H. |
