Air North, Yukon’s Airline Announces Domestic Connector Fares
New fares as low as $100 one-way between Whitehorse and Vancouver are now available for passengers with connecting domestic flights with other carriers.
WHITEHORSE, YT - 15 July 2020. Air North, Yukon’s Airline has introduced two Domestic Connector Fares for passengers planning to travel beyond Air North’s route network within Canada once it is safe to do so. The fares are available to passengers who fly with Air North from Whitehorse to Vancouver, and then connect with another airline to their final Canadian destination. The fare is also available to passengers travelling from Vancouver to Whitehorse with Air North after connecting from another domestic flight.
The Domestic Connector Fare allows travellers to fly for $100 one-way including fees and taxes for bookings made more than seven days in advance. For bookings made within seven days of travel, the Domestic Connector Fare is $150 one-way including fees and taxes. These fares are currently only available on Air North’s Whitehorse/Vancouver route.
“With the opening of the Yukon-BC bubble, we have resumed our service to Victoria and Kelowna on select days of the week. With the Domestic Connector Fare, passengers can enjoy our service to these destinations while at the same time having the option of connecting through Vancouver on days when we don’t offer service. We also know that passengers may have travel needs to destinations we don’t serve, and the Domestic Connector Fare aims to offer a competitive option in these cases,” says Benjamin Ryan, Air North’s Chief Commercial Officer.
In order to better serve passengers travelling to or from the northern markets Air North serves, the company is approaching major domestic carriers to build partnerships which would allow travellers to purchase tickets between the North and the broader domestic network, as well as to facilitate seamless baggage transfers. Air North is hopeful that there will be interest from the airlines who make up the majority of Canada’s air transportation network in aligning with Air North’s unique northern network.
“Currently, the domestic air travel market is disjointed because many of the regional and northern carriers that provide essential services to remote locations are not ‘connected’ to the broad network through industry-standard partnerships with the major domestic airlines. While we hope to change this through the establishment of new partnerships, in the meantime we are pleased to offer Domestic Connector Fares. Our ultimate goal is to offer these types of fares online and through all distribution channels through new partnerships with domestic airlines, but for now these fares can only be offered through our reservations team” continues Ryan. “We are hoping this affordable fare will encourage Yukoners to begin and end their journey with Air North while supporting us as the Yukon’s airline. We are also excited about the opportunity this creates for passengers who are connecting through Vancouver to the Yukon so they can experience our legendary northern hospitality.”
To book a Domestic Connector Fare, customers are asked to contact Air North Reservations by calling (867) 668-2228 or toll-free 1-800-661-0407. Travellers will be asked to provide connecting flight details including airline name, flight number, and date of travel. Passengers accessing Domestic Connector Fares are able to stay up to three days in Vancouver between connecting flights.
Air North passengers with a same-day domestic connecting flight to or from Air Canada can have their checked baggage transferred directly between airlines. More information can be found here.
The Yukon-BC border opened on 1 July 2020, permitting travel between the two regions without a need to self-isolate. Air North currently operates daily flights between Whitehorse and Vancouver and has twice-weekly service to Kelowna and Victoria. Click here to view full schedule details.
