All passengers 12 years of age (plus four months) will be required to prove their status to Air North at check-in and/or at boarding. This information may also be requested by Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) agents.

Your vaccination evidence must indicate “COVID-19 Proof of Vaccination” at the top of the document and include:

  • the official logos for
    • your province or territory
    • the Government of Canada (the word “Canada” with the Canadian flag above the last “a”)
  • your full name and date of birth
  • your COVID-19 vaccination history, including
    • the number of dose(s)
    • the vaccine type(s), product name(s) and lot number(s)
    • the date(s) you got your vaccination(s)
    • a SMART Health Card QR code

For detailed information from the Government of Canada about proof of vaccination, visit About the Canadian COVID-19 proof of vaccination.

What if my proof of vaccination was not issued in Canada?

Your proof of vaccination must include the following information:

  • full name of the person who received the vaccine;
  • the name of the government or organization who issued the proof or administered the vaccine;
  • the brand name or manufacturer of the vaccine or of the mix of accepted vaccines
  • the date you received your second dose of an accepted vaccine, or your first dose of Janssen/Johnson & Johnson

As long as your proof of vaccination meets these requirements, it will be accepted. You may refer to the If you don't have Canadian proof section of the COVID-19 Boarding flights and trains in Canada page from the Government of Canada for more information.

What happens if I don’t have proof of vaccination or a negative test and am departing from one of the cities from which it’s required?

Failure to provide proof of status will be reported to Transport Canada, may result in a fine of up to $5,000, and will result in a minimum 72-hour delay before the passenger is able to resume their journey. Passengers are responsible for any costs associated with such delays.

Can I refuse to declare my status?

You will be prohibited from boarding a flight for 72-hours following the refusal and Air North will be required to inform Transport Canada. Once the 72-hour period is concluded, you will still be required to declare your status before being permitted to board a flight.
